Taita Taveta Senator Dan Mwazo
Taita Taveta Senator Dan Mwazo has dismissed as rumors reports that he has decamped from ODM and joined Jubilee.Mwazo said those spreading the ‘unfounded’ information are his opponents with malicious intent. On Thursday, Mwazo was quoted in a local daily saying he regrets joining Cord and rallying the Taita and Taveta communities to support ODM in the 2013 election. He was further quoted wooing residents to join Jubilee for development. As a result, ODM officials in the county dismissed him and urged him to go ahead and join Jubilee.
Mwazo was speaking at a funeral in Kiononyi, where he was also quoted saying he will not lead the community in the wrong direction. But Mwazo says he is a life member of the opposition and he was misquoted. He said he was only opposed to the six-piece-suit vote pattern, where one votes for the president, governor, senator, woman representative, MP and MCA from the same party.
“This is what I objected to and I am still objecting because those elected are not working together,” he said. Mwazo said residents should vote for individuals and not the party because “the suit has not brought development”.
“Everyone should carry their own cross but as Mwazo I will vie on the ODM ticket.” Mwazo said those spreading the rumours are ODM members who want to be left in the party because they fear competition at the preliminaries.
