SENIOR DIRECTOR MESSAGING PRESIDENCY, STATE HOUSE – Eric Ngeno
Raila Odinga is frustrated because his penchant for mindless anarchy has elicited the scepticism and disdain of Kenyans. Even his hired thugs have tired of directionless spectacles of violence and are threatening to turn on CORD leaders at their next demonstration. The fact of the matter is that without people willing and able to do his bidding,Odinga is impotent and CORD utterly toothless regardless of how colourful their threats seem.Kenyans haven’t forgotten PEV. Kenya will never forget PEV. Therefore, a leader poking the healing wounds of 2007 for selfish gain is a leader at odds with the people. We have a constitution, laws and institutions which can and will stand this nation in good stead at all times, and act as proof the against divisive, violent and chaotic machinations of any politicians. The point has arrived when Kenyans, as one people, are able to boldly and simply reject calls to lawlessness regardless of who makes them. We are moving the body politic beyond incitement, division, conflict and lawlessness.
There is enough sense in the minds of Kenyans to realise that the legitimate exercise of one’s constitutional rights cannot and must not victimise other people. The freedom to picket, demonstrate and petition must not victimise innocent people going about their lawful business. The right of thought and expression cannot and must not victimise other communities, minorities and vulnerable people. In its best expression, Freedom has no victims.
This is why Kenyans have little sympathy for inciters of hatred and violence, as well as those hiding behind constitutional freedoms to foment unrest. And this moral moment knows no political, ethnic or other distinction. We are united for peace, national unity and the rule of law.
