Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet says the three Administration Police officers arrested over the murder of three people including a lawyer will face murder charges. The three are Senior Sergeant Fredrick Leliman, Corporal Stephen Chebulet and Police Constable Silvia Wanjiku.
IG Boinnet said there is circumstantial evidence to link the three officers to the murder of lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda and taxi driver Joseph Muiruri. He said they will face charges including murder as soon as investigations are over.
He added their action and behaviour are not a representative of the national police.”I reject claims there are death squads in police. These are rogue officers just like any society with rogue people. They will face the law,” he said. Boinnet said police will always uphold human rights and vowed to charge any other officer involved in the issue. He says police will ensure justice for all and consoled with the families of the deceased. The bodies of the lawyer and the two were found in a river in Kilimambogo after they went missing after they left a court in Mavoko on June 23.
