“Am happy to be honored. It’s a noble idea that I want to applaud the organizers for that. Continue with this, it will improve music industry in our region. I wish the same idea to replicate in other counties, we will have finest musicians,” said Arika.
He added: “I want to dedicate the trophy to my fans actually those who voted me and wished me victory. It’s a victory for all of us.”
Councilor Arika challenged the county government and other leaders to support talents in the county noting, that would improve the county’s economy.
“I heard some funds were allocated to the Ministry of Culture, Social Services, Youths and Sports, where did they go? Even the football tournament we heard was to begin is nowhere, is the county really serious in tapPing and nurturing talents? I ask Governor James Ongwae to look into that issue. We have talented children and youths but due to poverty their talent stagnant and simply dies,” posed the philanthropist leader.

“Nyamira is just a crawling baby. Why doesn’t the county government learn from Kisii,” wondered the youthful politician.
For a long time Kenyan artistes have been sidelined when it comes to playing and showcasing their work on Kenyan media.
Instead, they have watched from a distance as foreign artistes are given first priority in almost every platform in Kenya, effectively making Kenya look amateurs in the entertainment industry.
However, Kevin Ombwori popularly known by his stage name-Kay B, launched a campaign on February 2015 aimed at giving Kenyan artistic work 100% airplay. He hosts a show-Vipaji Kenya, a premier show on Johnson Mwakazi’s new TV station, W TV Kenya.
Ombwori also works as radio news and program presenter with one of the vernacular radio stations owned by the Royal Media Services. He runs a show, Ragga Kuruka, an esteemed show at Egesa FM.
In an interview with Scholarmedia, Kay B aims at creating a platform where all Kenyans artists will be able to show their talent and tell the world what they are made of.
“Vipaji Kenya is a campaign aimed at helping Kenyan artistes realise their dream because for a long time they have been overlooked for foreign a artistes,” Kay B says.
Kay B added: “I don’t believe it when people call someone an upcoming artiste. There is nothing like that. An artiste is an artiste. The only difference is that he/she has not been given the platform to show their talent.”
Kay B who was the brain child of the GASU Awards, applauded sponsors for their support to see Gusii talents growing.
He said the Award winning event will be an annual event to award artists, journalists, leaders and other categories.
“We launched the GASUA Awards with minimal resources but with your support it was a success. We still looking for more well wishers to support our great talents and motivate them better than the trophies they won.”
Kay B won TV entertainment show of the year for his (Vipaji show).
Among the sponsors of the GASU Awards included; NACADA, Kisii County Government, Love FM, Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) and Kevitech Communication Communications.
